  • Provide feed and water to horses
  • Carry out routine care and monitor the health and well-being of horses
  • Restrain horses using specified methods
  • Monitoring and maintaining health and safety
  • Maintain and develop personal performance
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
  • Fit, remove and maintain tack for exercise
  • Assist with getting the mare in foal
  • Assist with foaling
  • Assist in handling mares and foals
  • Ride horses on the road
  • Ride a horse in the open
  • Ride and lead horses
  • Ride a schooled horse

How is the course taught?
  • Practical work including working with competition stallions, young stock, foals, mares in foal and foalings, experienced competition horses and ponies
  • Classroom-based work in groups and on a one to one basis
Equipment and resources used
  • DEFRA approved yard
  • Access to onsite full equine facilities including horses, stable yard, indoor arena and outdoor arena
  • Access to stud with competition stallions and performance young stock, AI centre and laboratory
