The Programme is a post registration award and professional qualification designed to meet the professional needs of Registered Nurses who will be working in a Primary Health care setting. The programme is designed to meet the needs of individual practitioners seeking a flexible and adaptable route to a degree level qualification and specialist practitioner recorded qualification with the NMC.
This is a standard programme and you will not need to select individual modules when making your application. Specialist academic and clinical colleagues have worked collaboratively to develop expert core modules for Specialist District Nursing including Community Formulary Prescribing v100 (full-time).

About this course
Effective registration with Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC Professional Register).
A minimum of two year’s post-registration clinical experience, normally within a community healthcare practice setting. Applicants must also possess 120 credits at level four and level five.
Must have the ability to study successfully at degree level.
You should also be able to demonstrate evidence of undertaking relevant practice development and/or additional post registration study at level 6.
Should normally have evidence of successful academic level 6 study within the last five years.

BSc (Hons) District Nursing (with NMC Specialist Practitioner Qualification) and Community Practitioner Nurse Prescriber (NMC V100)
Programme is offered full time over 1 year - all modules to be undertaken by all students:
- SPEC 3608 Developing expertise in District Nursing (30 credits) semester one
- SPEC 3615 The community agenda (15 credits) semester one
- PCPH 3041 Developing research skills (15 credits) – semester one
- PCPH 3040 Organisational development and change in contemporary healthcare (15 credits) semester two
- SPEC 3601 The accountable practitioner (15 credits)- semester two
- SPEC 3604 Physical & psychosocial examination skills for specialist practice (30 credits) semester two
- NMAH 3112 Community formulary prescribing (V100) (0 credits) year long
The course adopts a range of teaching and learning strategies designed to facilitate the learning of a professional group; aiming to be efficient and motivating in the transfer of theoretical and practical knowledge, and to engage positively in actively negotiating, constructing and evaluating learning. Strategies include;

- You must complete a total of 120 credits and V(100) for the BSc (Hons) in District Nursing
