The agronomist is a professional who deals with agronomy, studying it as a pure or applied science. Besides the freelance profession, he can be employed in companies, in the agricultural industry, in the environmental or agri-food, construction, energy fields or as an official or manager in public or private offices. In particular, the agronomist applies his own technical skills to guide anthropization interventions on the territory and the environment, on the factors that determine the quality and quantity of agricultural and livestock production. He works mainly in the rural environment with applications also in urban areas. The agronomist is also interested in the economic, ecological and planning aspects related to the urban and extra-urban environment. Originally, the professions of land surveyor, agronomist, they were considered sacred and of exclusive priestly attribution. One became an agronomist or land surveyor by inheritance: the lucky one only had to prove that he had the professional skills; those who could not exercise by "divine grace" could do so after having attended a specific school. The teaching was divided into a theoretical part (institutio) and a practical part (instructio). The pupils personally witnessed the census and stacking of agricultural areas, the foundations of new colonies, and all the operations in the countryside carried out by the professors of gromatics (science that measures the earth) and by engineers and agronomists of the State. After completing their studies, the students had to take a final exams and thus obtain the title of magisteri agrorum geometrie or professed or auctores;
