Subjects

For each 8 point subject you are enrolled in, you should expect to spend 10 to 12 hours per week working on assignments and assigned readings, tutorial assistance, individual or group research/study, forum activity, workplace learning, and attending lectures, residential schools, or examinations.

If you are studying four subjects per session, this is equivalent to a full-time job. The workload for some subjects may vary as a result of approved course design.

As a Charles Sturt University student, throughout your course you have a responsibility to continue to develop skills in English language, literacy and numeracy as appropriate to your discipline. This ongoing development will enable you to effectively participate in your course and graduate prepared to enter the workforce.

To graduate students must satisfactorily complete 192 points.Full subject list
Candidates should contact the Sub-Dean Graduate Studies to discuss possible research topics. Candidates wishing to undertake research in an area strategically aligned with a designated University Research Centre should also contact the Director of that Centre.

In accordance with the University's Higher Degree Research Policy, candidates will be assigned an appropriate supervisor who will assist the candidate in developing a research proposal, the title of the thesis, and guide the candidate throughout their candidature and thesis preparation.

Priority research areas of the Faculty for a Doctor of Philosophy by research and thesis are, among others, education, teacher education, information studies, Australian literature, rural sociology, Indigenous Australian studies, Australian history, communication, creative industries and culture, ethics and social philosophy, social work, social welfare and human services, social administration and policy, theological and biblical studies, Islamic Studies, fine art and drama.

There are minimum Academic and English Language requirements for admission to Charles Sturt University courses. These requirements ensure that our students have the best chance for success.
