About this course

Alumni of IUK Master of Science in Complementary Health Sciences or equivalent degree. Students registered as degree candidate at Universidad Azteca shall have access to the Joint Degree Programme. Students shall be screened for eligibility for admission as Joint Degree candidates by IUK. Candidates’ previous studies have to include a minimum of 240 ECTS-Points and a degree at Master’s level.

Joint programme of Universidad Azteca and IUK – professional doctorate by publication and dissertation.



Interuniversitäres Kolleg für Gesundheit und Entwicklung (IUK) at Graz, Austria, is offering MSc Programmes recognised by Minister of Education, Science and Culture, Government of Austria, the Interuniversitäres Kolleg für Gesundheit und Entwicklung Graz / Schloss Seggau, Austria, established in 2000, is an institution of research and education, offering two Master of Science degree programmes, recognised in accordance with §§ 27-28 of the Austrian University Studies Law (Universitätsstudiengesetz 1997) (MSc Complementary, Psychosocial and Integrated Health Sciences; MSc Child Development), has been evaluated furthermore in accordance with the British higher education system by the Validation Board of the University of Wales, and is additionally authorised in Switzerland as "Interuniversitäre Hochschule für Gesundheit und Entwicklung". The IUK is the hub of the inter-uni.net for integrated health sciences and represents the interests of 35 European and international higher education institutions and institutions of quality promotion in the complementary and alternative (“reformed”) areas in health and education. This network has been standardised in the frame of an EU Project Leonardo da Vinci A/02/B/F/PP-124.205 since 2002. The IUK has more than 400 graduates and students from Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Netherlands and Denmark. The more than 20 lecturers are usually lecturing at other universities and higher education institutions. Courses are run in German and English.



Universidad Azteca (UA), at Chalco, México; is a Private University with Recognition of the Official Validity of Studies (RVOE) awarded by the federal Secretary of Education, accredited by the Federal Ministry of Education of the Republic and recognised by the Federal Government (SECRETARIA DE EDUCACION PUBLICA, SEP) to issue University degrees. According to the Mexican Higher Education laws Universidad Azteca is authorized to award degrees with RVOE and own academic degrees of the university (grados propios).



This programme permits joint degree students of IUK and Universidad Azteca, upon the successful fulfilment of the conditions, the opportunity of receiving by a joint diploma both, the professional academic degree of the home institution at the Doctor of Complementary Health Sciences degree level, and the award of the corresponding Postgraduate study workload Diploma for the research and editing modules, including work groups on scientific reflection, communication and publishing which students have to obtain within the joint programme at the Postgraduate degree level of IUK or other partner institutions of the inter-uni.net for integrated health sciences.



The Joint Degree shall only be awarded after the student has completed his/her studies at the host institution under the validation / homologation of the home institution, including the research project and dissertation thesis project, and has additionally fulfilled the following requirements:

- award of the respective Postgraduate Diploma under the responsibility of the host institution; and

- completion of a doctoral dissertation thesis; and

- successful completion of the oral or written dissertation defence exams.



Dissertation is based on empiric research (quantitative or qualitative) with corresponding publication (one Publication as first author or two publications as corresponding author or second author) in a listed or indexed scientific journal (listed in pubmed, science citation index, embase or similar), in justifiable cases the respective publication can be published in another specific journal or by Universidad Azteca publication, as well as a publication may already be used in the stage of submission (prior to publication). Publications should be elaborated and edited mainly in the course of the dissertation-workshops with a reference made to the Joint Programme, in particular cases the use of previous publications is acceptable. Data and Publications generated during the Master-Thesis can be used by means of deeper and broader research for the dissertation-thesis, however, the utilisation of a Master-Thesis as Dissertation by “Re-Make” is excluded.



The Joint Degree shall award both, the university own professional doctorate of Universidad Azteca, and the corresponding postgraduate degree of IUK. It shall be issued separately by both institutions, as Postgraduate Diploma by IUK and Doctor by Universidad Azteca.



For the purpose of international mobility, the Joint Diploma will be accompanied by a Diploma Supplement according to art. IX.3 of the Lisbon Recognition Convention of 11 April 1997.
