DogBasics Puppy Classes

The Puppy Course is laid out over 6 lessons in total, plus the initial 10-15 minute assessment of your puppy.
All in all, the course covers 5 practical lessons (outdoors), 1 Dog Language theory lesson (indoors) and 1 assessment (10-15 min, outdoors). Included in the course are also free socialising sessions.

The lessons are held weekly and will be 45 minutes each. During the lesson the puppies will mainly be off lead and we'll let them socialise in between each exercise.
The lessons will be held during day time on weekdays or at weekends. All the training is done outdoors, so we are dependant on daylight.

Each group is set up depending on the personality of the dog, making sure that the most nervous puppies will have a chance to build up confidence with other gentle puppies. See information on how to book, below.
Get a home visit from a dog trainer before your puppy is fully vaccinated!

If you want to make sure you get everything right from the beginning, get a dog trainer to come to your home for a private training session, before your puppy is fully vaccinated. We can highly recommend Pam Haynes at The Dog School or Alison Milner at MilnersMutts for this type of home visit (sorry, but we don't offer this service ourselves).

Price:
The course costs £40 in total. You can either pay cash on the day of your first lesson or via internet banking before your first lesson. If you want to pay via internet banking (or straight into a bank), just ask for our bank details before your course starts. We don't accept cheques.

For clients who have already taken the Dog Language lesson in a previous course (puppy class, BasOb, TWO, Introduction Course or other), the price is £30.
Number of puppies in each class:
There will be a maximum of 6-8 puppies in each class
Exercises:

Sit, Down, Stay, Recall, Walking on lead without pulling, Focus exercises, Not jumping up, Leave, Health check

Theory: Dog Language

Course Goal:
Teaching your puppy some self control, confidence and some basic social skills with other puppies, in a secure environment, mainly off lead. This is an easy going course that will teach you and your puppy the basics. A large part of each lesson will also be used for socialisation (puppy play).

How to book:
To book your space on a Puppy Course, please fill in the Contact Us form with your preferred course (Puppy Class), your preferred day and preferred time, for your course.
I will then try to match you with other puppy owners who are looking for the same days and times for their course, who own dogs of similar size and temperament.

How old are the puppies in the lessons?
The puppies are welcome from the day that they are allowed out, after having finished their vaccinations. We don't really have a lid on the max age of the puppies that come to the socialisation sessions, but we do divide the puppies up in different groups, depending on their confidence. Generally the puppies over 4 months go to the Medium socialisation sessions and the puppies under 4 months go to the Small Breed socialisation sessions, but there are exceptions.

Where are the lessons held?
Our puppy courses are held outdoors, in Great Offley, Hertfordshire, in a fenced in garden.
Our address is 2 Claypit Cottages, Luton Whitehill, Offley, Herts, SG5 3DN. Offley is a village located between Luton and Hitchin, near Lilley, Charlton and Cockernhoe.
