The law states that anyone who wishes to work as a door supervisor must be appropriately trained and registered with the Security Industry Authority (SIA). This national recognised course has therefore been specially designed for door supervisors and on successful completion will enable them to apply you to the SIA for a Door Supervisor Licence.

Course programme

The course is designed to meet the criteria of the SIA and cover everything you need to know to successfully pass the end of course examinations. Below is an outline of the course content: Unit 1: Working in the Private Security industry, covers the main characteristics of this sector including: Aims and functions of the SIA and the key bodies within the industry. The required qualities of a private security operative and the career opportunities open to them are explained. Unit 2: Role and responsibilities of door supervisors, including how to comply with the law, licensing law, admission policies and procedures, refusing entry, searching people and premises, seizing articles, eviction, use of force, how to deal with emergencies, misuse of drugs, offensive weapons, arrest, preserving the scene of a crime and report writing. Unit 3: Conflict management for door supervisors, including an introduction to communication skills and conflict management skills. Unit 4: Physical intervention skills, including disengagement techniques this shows how staff can reduce the risks of assault through non-physical measures. The day also covers holding techniques where the job role may legitimately involve physically escorting or holding an individual.
