Course breakdown is as follows:
AS Unit 1: Theatre Workshop (24% of qualification)
Non-exam assessment. Internally assessed, externally moderated by WJEC.
Learners use the techniques of a theatre practitioner/company to reinterpret a text for performance:
a realisation of the performance/design
a creative log
an evaluation of the performance/design
AS Unit 2: Text in Theatre (16% of qualification)
Written exam of 1 hour and 30 minutes. One set text from a choice of six. Learners must also analyse and evaluate live theatre in relation to set text.
A2 Unit 3: Text in Action (36% of qualification)
Non-exam assessment, externally assessed by a visiting examiner
Learners use the techniques of a theatre practitioner/company and a different style to make two pieces:
a devised piece
a text piece
plus a process and evaluation report
A2 Unit 4: Text in Performance (24% of qualification)
Written exam of 2 hours 30 minutes. Two set texts from a choice of six
Learners must also analyse and evaluate live theatre in relation to set texts.

Course programme
The AS and A2 course is taught at the Arts centre at the college's Gorseinon campus and is based on 4.5 hours of teaching throughout the academic year.
Each learner is assessed by the tutors and through external moderation and examination by external examiners of the WJEC.
Learners studying A Level Drama have progressed onto studying at leading drama colleges such as RADA, LAMDA , Bristol Old Vic and The Central School of Speech and Drama. Many learners go on to study drama at university.
Learners are expected to have achieved seven GCSE grades of grade C and above for acceptance onto this course (including preferably a grade B in English.) Learners are also required to have a keen interest in performing and the development of dramatic skills. No previous experience in the subject is necessary.
