Course overview
Drama is and has always been at the forefront of a countries cultural and social identity, with playwrights such as Chekhov, Shakespeare, Pinter and Fo creating and writing plays that are still performed today around the country. The Arts is ever changing and ever evolving, with attendances at the 52 London theatres reaching 14.7 million people in 2014 earning around £623 million in that year alone. Drama is exciting, dynamic an engaging allowing you to build confidence as well as your own acting skills, you will also learn a number of other transferable skills which can be applied to any other profession regardless of whether it has a connection to drama and theatre. Students will build up their knowledge of a number of genres and acting styles and be able to apply that knowledge to their acting. Students will look at working with scripts and devising their own performances from stimulus. You will:create, perform and respond to drama and theatredevelop the creativity and independence to become effective theatre makersexplore the relationship between theory and practice in a range of theatrical styles and periods and historical, social and cultural contextslearn how relevant research, independent thought and analysis of live theatre production can inform decision making in their practical work and put this understanding into practiceexperience the ways in which theatre makers collaborate to create theatre
Who is this course for?
Ideally you will be achieving at least 25 points/ 5 x 5 points or above/A*-C grades at GCSE (or equivalent), including English and Maths. You also need to enjoy creativity and developing new skills whilst nurturing those you already possess. A Level work is not easy but opens up the door to many careers in the future.
What other experience will I gain?
Being part of Chesterfield College Sixth Form is so much more than A Levels. We want you to leave us with as many skills as possible to help you with you next step (as well as making your time here fun). That's why you'll also get the opportunity to take part in competitions, maths club, debate society, science club, Duke of Edinburgh, Young Enterprise and yoga classes - as well as all the other college wide teams and activities. All year 1 students take AS General Studies, it is valuable because you pick up skills and knowledge that can be used in ALL your other subjects. For students who wish to then the full A-Level is available in year 2. You will discuss (not study): Culture and Society; including discussions on beliefs, values, ideologies and how these shape cultures AND Science and Society; including discussions on how science and society interact. AS-Level Further Maths is available in year 2 for students who wish to pursue a career where mathematical excellence is required.
