This class offers tuition in painting and drawing to all levels of ability. The aim of the course is to help and
encourage students, whatever their experience, to develop both technically and imaginatively.

For the less experienced the emphasis will be on equipping them with the basic technical knowledge to then begin to explore their own imaginative potential. This will initially take the form of exercises in observational drawing and painting. Those who already have some basic knowledge will be set projects designed to stimulate the imagination and experiment with use of media. The more experienced will be encouraged to initiate their own ideas and, with the support and advice of the tutor, to experiment with media, technique and imagery.

The first class of every term begins with an observational drawing exercise. All materials are provided for this exercise and advice will be given on media and equipment you may need in the following weeks.

What else do I need to know?

their skills throughout the academic year. Though desirable, it is not essential to have joined the class at the beginning of the year, as each term will involve activities new to everyone.
