Course Description
Drawing Intensive introduces students of all levels to a totally immersive drawing experience on a daily basis. Each day's real art-school-based studio session offers three full hours of drawing combined with group critique, one-on-one feedback to hone technique, and the freedom to experiment. This course gives students a head start in preparing for college art classes by creating a more advanced, unique portfolio that shows a range of skills: short sketches, detailed multi-session renderings, and large-scale, creative, free-form expressions that demonstrate their own unique vision. Through experimentation, risk taking, and perseverance, students will become better at rendering and gain insight into their personal approach to drawing.
Drawing Intensive challenges students to draw from a range of subjects, including the live model, landscape, architectural spaces, an extreme and super-sized still life setup, and directly from their imagination. Drawing is a foundation skill applicable to many areas of study, including graphic design, illustration, apparel design, 3-D modeling, architecture, and art history. Repeated exposure to different forms of drawing (figuration, abstraction, naturalism, and surrealism) are combined with experimentation in mixed media, including graphite, charcoal, pastel, and water-based paint. Drawing Intensive encourages students to challenge themselves to improve their drawing skills and to build on their unique strengths.
Everyone will leave class with a complete portfolio that will represent a distinctive addition to their college application. Students will possess improved drawing and painting technique, knowledge of contemporary and historical art practices, and an advanced sense of their own personal artistic vision.
This course is designed for the young artist who wants to build on previous experience and those who may be completely new to art. The assignments build basic skills and stimulate individuals who have art making experience to continue to refine their proficiency and concepts. One-on-one class feedback allows students of all levels to improve their technique and achieve their artistic goals.
