Course programme

MA in Drawing Year

Mode: full-time

The postgraduate programme is an MA level course with a postgraduate diploma certificate that extends over an academic year made up of three ten week terms running from September to June. It offers thirty students the opportunity to explore a wide range of drawing practices. Bursary funded with studio space provided in the Tea Building and ten further maintenance grants, students are also assessed by an Independent Board.

Students commit to a minimum of two days a week attendence at classes and attend a forum one evening a week. Classes are held out of house and in the Shoreditch studios. There are etching, woodcut and monoprint facilities available.

The weekly forum is tutor led and is an opportunity for debate on aspects of drawing in historical and contemporary contexts. Students also attend talks and conversations with contemporary artists, curators and writers. Recent speakers have included Jake and Dinos Chapman, Jeremy Deller, Grayson Perry and Frank Auerbach.

All students have a personal tutor and have one or two tutorials per term. Recent visiting tutors have included Ansel Krut, Julian Perry and Deanna Petherbridge.

There are various travel opportunities during the year to places within the UK and Europe. Students have free access to all exhibitions at the Royal Academy for the duration of the course. There is unique access to the collections of Old Master drawings at Chatsworth and at Windsor.
