Information about the course

Over 15 sessions, we investigate all that is needed to know how to create dynamic web sites. We investigate PHP and MySQL databases to create dynamic web sites. As part of the sessions we work in small teams to create a real web site for a company for the internet, to a specification given by the company.

Course content

This is the final course in the series and is a Level 3 course. The course is extremely intensive and follows on from the Web Site Design Course.

Session 1 - Revise Dreamweaver. Mark up Languages and creating sites using web standards.

Session 2 - Using CSS and different browsers - using Server Side Includes (SSI).

Session 3 - Server Interaction - Client-side and Server-side programming - javascript, Java applets, etc..

Session 4 - Frames - conventional frames and use of iframes.

Session 5 - Introduction to ASP, PHP and MySQL. Testing servers.

Session 6 - Using DW to create dynamic pages. Creating forms.

Session 7 - Creating an MySQL database.

Session 8 - Using Dreamweaver server behaviours with MySQL.

Session 9 - Using Dreamweaver for adding, editing and deleting records.

Session 10 - Searching databases - images - assignment criteria.

Session 11 - Passing information - using forms - assignment practise.

Session 12 - Database interaction and Frames - assignment practise.

Session 13 - Revision and Assignment Part 1.

Session 14 - Revision and Assignment Part 2.

Session 15 - Revision and Assignment Part 3.

Additionality

The tutor is an experienced web page designer, who lends all his experience to create fun sessions that are also hard work. The course does have some homework, which typically involves creating web sites or learning some new technology on your own. You will require access to Dreamweaver and a suitable graphics package.

When will I receive my results?

Results will be forwarded on as soon as they are received at the college. Please note that certificates, where awarded, can take up to 4 months to be received at the college before forwarding on to learners.

Progression

Course: An e-commerce course, or HNC or HND.

Employment: Many jobs are available. Many students have set themselves up in business as either full time or part time web designers. Others are involved with web technology as part of their work and this course gives them a good grounding in the necessary skills.

Payment options: Part-time enrolments are subject to an additional annual registration fee of £10 payable once only per academic year (exemptions may apply).
