Entry qualificationsNone
Information about the courseStudents will have guidance to undertake making a garment of their choice.
Demonstrations and handouts will be part of the course giving tips and advice on the stages of garment construction.
Course contentAreas for study include:
Understanding a pattern, fabric selection, using a sewing machine, making seam and seam finishes, inserting zips, buttonholes, simple pocket types and applying facings, setting in sleeves, cuff and cuff openings
Gain confidence in pattern and fabric selection.
For new learners the first lesson will be learning how to use the sewing machine and all materials will be provided for this.
AdditionalityStudents will undertake a garment of their choice. Advice is given at all stages.
Students are required to bring their sewing kit to each lesson. Sewing Machines are supplied. If you are unsure of what to bring or sewing equipment required, advice will be given during the first lesson.
The course content may vary according to which tutor is teaching this course, also the content may be adapted to meet the needs of the class.
AssessmentContinuous assessment - there are no exams
ProgressionAdvice and guidance will be given during the course on further progression and learning opportunities.
