Dressmaking

Course Information

The course is for anyone who has an interest in developing their sewing and dressmaking skills. You will become familiar with basic sewing stitches,learn how to use a sewing machine and add a new dimension to your sewing,design skills and knowledge.

Assessment and Accreditation

Open College Network certificates can be achieved through continuous assessment of practical skills and production of a portfolio of evidence. Working towards a certificate is optional,however your progress will be reviewed regularly by the tutor.

What will I Learn?

  • The course will cover the following topics:
  • Types of fabrics
  • Choosing patterns for your level of skill
  • Cutting out and laying patterns
  • Sewing garments or soft furnishings
  • Finishing seams,darts,button holes and completing garments
  • Decorating with applique,beads and sequins.

What Should I Bring?

You will need:

  • A notepad
  • Pen and pencil.

The tutor will advise you about the selection of a pattern and the appropriate materials you will need for your project.

Sewing machines, scissors, pins, iron and ironing board are available in class.
