Looking to enhance your program with an additional skill-set using current technology? The Drone Operations Certificate program will give you strong foundational knowledge and practical training.
The coursework and labs will provide you with a professional advantage by allowing you to distinguish yourself via your experience with drone use for environmental or film applications. After taking the 100-level class, you will need to earn an FAA Remote Pilot license. This will allow you to borrow and use professional-level drones in the upper-level courses. Drone flight pilot practice is required to complete assignments in upper-level courses. This interdisciplinary program will give you essential skills applicable to your major to ultimately enhance your resume and employability upon graduation.

Certificate Requirements: 3 courses with corresponding laboratories, 9 credits

Core Requirements (2 course and corresponding laboratory, 5 credits)
  • UES-107 Introduction to Drones
  • UES-L107 Introduction to Drones Lab
  • UES-L108 Drone Flight Course
Electives (1 course and corresponding laboratory, 4 credits)

Choose one of the following courses with the corresponding laboratory, where applicable:
  • CJN-2080 Drones for Filmmakers
  • UES-226 Drones Applications for Environmental Analysis
  • UES-L226 Drones Applications for Environmental Analysis Lab
Note: To enroll in an advanced course (200-level) requiring independent drone flights, a student must have proof of an FAA Remote Pilot Certificate prior to course registration. In addition, to enroll in an advanced 200-level drone course, a student must be able to demonstrate his or her ability to fly a drone in accordance with all pertinent regulatory and University requirements.
