Course outline
A two year course which looks at a variety of the skills used in the developing e-media workplace. Most of your time will be spent working on computers developing your graphical software skills (most students starting the course have never used this type of software before).
Year one
You will be introduced to simple Stop Motion animation using similar techniques to those used by the professionals, creating new and manipulating existing still digital graphics (using PHOTOSHOP) and producing digital advertisements. Theoretical areas covered during the first year include research techniques used in the new Media industries and career pathways.
Year two
You will be creating Flash animations (vector based animation) for incorporation in an existing web site or as a complete web site in its own right. Using the skills acquired during the first year you will produce a promotional CD/ DVD (using DIRECTOR). During the second year you will develop the skills required to manage a projects in the New Media industries by developing whole solutions to full problems.
During the second year you will have the time to go back and improve your grades on first year units.

How you will learn
A significant part of your learning will be carried out on the college network of computers using a virtual learning environment (VLE). This means you will always have help available and be able to access the learning materials outside lessons.
How you will be assessed
All of your assessment will involve coursework that will involve you in working on your own outside lesson times. For most of the units you will be acquiring a wide variety of software skills and using these skills to produce solutions to problems.
Other complementary subjects
Although many students combine this with Art and Photography courses, other possibilities include English Language, Communication Studies, Business Studies, Computing and Psychology.

Several Universities have Multimedia and Digital graphics courses.
Job opportunities are extensive, as are the opportunities for setting up your own business.
