This qualification covers the fundamental skills and knowledge common to all engineering practices, including health and safety requirements and communicating engineering information. It offers an extensive choice and flexibility for learners to demonstrate in one or more of a broad variety of engineering activities. the qualification also caters for those providing technical support, including project planning and contributing to business improvement. The qualification provides the foundation requirement of the Apprenticeship and Advanced Apprenticeship in Engineering when appropriate assessment routes are selected.
This qualification requires a minimum of 6 evidence routes.
The College offers 3 distinct pathways to meet the needs of differing occupational trade areas within the wide field of Engineering.
The 3 pathways are:
- Maintenance Engineering Route
- Electronic Route
- General Engineering Route

Continued employment plus progression at NVQ Level 3 within your chosen discipline of engineering and/or a day release (the National Certificate programme forms the Technical Certificate for Apprentices) as does the Advanced Diploma in Engineering & Technology Level 3

Grade D or above in GCSE Maths, English and a Science is required, or NVQ Level 1 Engineering and Manufacture. You will to be aged 16 years or over.

Assessment of the units is carried out by meeting a combination of performance and knowledge criteria. The awarding body EMTA state the standards of competence, which need to be achieved. The qualification has no set formal external examinations, but assessment is carried out on a continuous basis on the practical task and underpinning knowledge requirements for each unit studied.
