As a student in the undergraduate Early Childhood Education program, you will be prepared to address the human relations and diversity within the public schools. The teacher education programs are organized in cohorts with mentor leaders. You will be with your cohort from the beginning to the end of your program. Being part of a program offers you an opportunity to collaborate with your peers and those lessons last well into your career.
Professional courses are primarily taken in the third and fourth years. After being officially accepted to GC, students must apply on or before the third Friday in January to be considered for acceptance into a College of Education teacher education programs beginning the next fall. Cohort application packets are available online in October, and acceptance is competitive.
The Early Childhood program is approved by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) and is nationally recognized by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). In 2016, the Early Childhood Education program was ranked fourth in the nation by Teacher.org. The program is also featured in the National Council for Teacher Quality's soon to be published in Start HERE to Become a Teacher: Where to Go and What to Know, a publication that highlights top undergraduate teacher preparation programs in the United States.

About this course
The Early Childhood Education program is designed to prepare prospective teachers of children in grades PreK-5. The program of study supports a foundation in child development, family and community, relationships, curriculum development, and assessment. In addition, teacher candidates receive content preparation in mathematics, reading and language arts, science and social studies. Through a field-based approach, which provides a broad range of field placements throughout the two-year program, candidates are supported in making connections between theories and practice.
A freshman 1-hour orientation course is required by GC.
In order to receive credit towards graduation, candidates must earn a B or higher in EDEX 3210.
