Level Five This Foundation Degree is for reflective practitioners working in or towards a supervisory role within an early years setting. It will further enhance and develop your understanding and ability to apply the principles of quality evidence-based practice. It will also teach you to work with colleagues and to learn how to critically evaluate and reflect on your own and others' practices, as well as providing an exciting opportunity for collaboration and dialogue with professionals working across a range of early years settings, including Nursery Supervisors, Key Workers, Registered Child Minders, SENCOs and Teaching Assistants.

Course programme
On successful completion you may be able to progress to:
- the final year of the BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies degree at Plymouth University
- enhanced employment opportunities and pathways into children’s social work/teacher training.
The course includes the following subjects:
- child development A – cognitive, intellectual, language and physical development
- child development B – personal, social and emotional development
- enabling children
- inclusion and the individual child
- personal and professional development planning
- the role of the senior practitioner
- child protection
- multi-agency working and sharing information
- working with parents.
In addition, a minimum of two learning outcomes from the route specific sections need to be taken. These route specific outcomes relate to working with babies in partnership with parents, working with the curriculum, assisting teachers and play work.
Subject to specific requirements, this foundation degree is designed typically to:
- build upon students' level 3 achievement and practical experience and provide the competencies, knowledge and understanding required at senior practitioner level
- provide the first two years learning towards an ordinary or honours degree linked to a programme of initial teacher training
- provide the first two years learning towards another degree in the early years, care or play work areas.
