This programme aims to advance professional knowledge and expertise of Early Years educators working across the children's workforce. The programme offers the opportunity of achieving a Higher Education qualification awarded by the University of Greenwich whilst maintaining relevant employment and experiences in children's services. This combination of higher level study and work based learning enables applicants to develop professionalism and advance their career prospects whilst maintaining their practice in settings. Potential career destinations include promotions within nurseries, pre-schools and primary schools, or transfer across children's services to positions in local authority or advisory contexts working with parents and families within the health and social work sectors. The College offers a friendly and dynamic community of students studying across a wide range of disciplines, and is ideally located within close proximity to London. The programme is taught by highly qualified academic staff with many years of professional experience in working in the Early Years sector. The opportunity to work in smaller groups means that they are able to deliver learning in innovative ways, and traditional teaching is supported by online resources within a virtual learning environment. Independent study is encouraged and supported by the College's Learning Resource Centre, and students are also encouraged to use facilities at the partner university for this programme, the University of Greenwich. The synergy between practice and theory is strengthened by the working relationships developed between the college and the Early Years sector, largely through the mentoring system.

Assessment Assessments of learning are made through formal academic essays, creative activities, individual and group presentations, reflective journals, poster presentations, and through evidence of following a debate or topic of interest through accessing digital media (e.g. television programmes, online newspaper articles and blogs). There are currently no timed examinations. Careers The Foundation Degree is a stand-alone Level 5 qualification and students who successfully complete the programme should benefit from enhanced employment prospects in the early years sector, becoming leaders and managers as well as continuing to develop best practice. Graduates of this programme increasingly choose to continue their studies to achieve a full BA/BA Honours Degree with a further year of study. Of the 28 students who graduated from the programme in 2014, 19 progressed to a Degree top-up programme at a university.
