Are you interested in launching a career in business? The HND (Higher National Diploma) Business is designed to enable you to develop the necessary skills and knowledge to gain entry into the business world. The course offerings will hone your skills in key business functions such as Management, Marketing and Finance, as well as help you enhance relevant knowledge and skills in Economics, Communication, Problem Solving and Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The HND also addresses the fundamental legal knowledge required to operate in a business setting.
The HND has a strong managerial focus which enables candidates to progress more quickly to supervisory/management roles.
The specific aims of HND Business are to:
• develop suitable competencies to enhance an already existing administrative, commercial or managerial career
• enable candidates to further their professional, academic or vocational qualifications
• adopt an innovative and creative approach to their work and be able to respond quickly to the challenges posed by changes in the business environment
• develop a global understanding of business, marketing and consumer issues
• enable candidates to consider and revisit core business issues and develop a depth of understanding from a managerial perspective
• further develop organisational and investigative skills
• promote the development of transferable skills in planning, organising and evaluation and enable the candidate to investigate business issues and problems.

About this course
English language skills. International learners will be required to have ILETS 5.5 or equivalent. Different combinations of relevant National Qualifications, Vocational Qualifications and equivalent qualifications from other awarding bodies may be acceptable, as would suitable industry standard qualifications at an appropriate level.
Mature candidates with suitable work experience may be accepted for entry if they are likely to benefit from undertaking the qualification. All prospective students should have good communication skills.

Course programme
Candidates will be awarded an HND in Business upon successful completion of all of the units in the mandatory section and an appropriate combination of optional units up to a total of 240 SCQF credit points. There will be at least 64 SCQF credit points at SCQF level 8.
The HND Business mandatory Units comprise 88 SCQF credit points at SCQF level 8 and 96 SCQF credit points at SCQF level 7. Candidates must complete a further 56 SCQF credit points from the optional section and there are no restrictions on the SCQF level from which to draw these credit points.This equates to 23 HN credits from the mandatory section and 7 HN credits from the options.

Professional body memberships Candidates completing HND Business are guaranteed Associate Grade of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) with the designatory letters ACMI. HND Business graduates who also have three years management experience will be guaranteed Member Grade with the designatory letters MCMI. Graduates are required to contact us if they wish to apply for the relevant membership. The Chartered Institute of Bankers for Scotland will accept holders of HND directly into their higher level qualification. This is now called Chartered Banker and leads to MCIBS (Member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland).
