Application procedure
Applications must be made online using King’s online application portal apply.kcl.ac.uk and a non-refundable application fee of £60 applies. We aim to process all complete applications within four to six weeks although this may take longer in February, March and over holiday periods. You will receive a notification when your application has been passed to the admissions tutor for assessment.

Previous Academic Study
A copy (or copies) of your degree certificate will be required for evidence of medical qualification. Applicants with academic documents issued in a language other than English will need to submit both the original and official translation of their document

Course detail Description
The EASA Basic Aviation Medicine course is a unique course in the UK providing medical practitioners the opportunity to develop the skills required to become AMEs with class 2 privileges. Currently it is the only course in the UK recognised by the CAA as suitable training for those wishing to apply for Class 2 medical certification privileges.
The course consists of lectures, tutorials and seminars, with a significant practical component, that is completed in 2 weeks of full-time study. It is designed to meet the requirements of EASA Part Med and consists of 60 hours of theoretical and practical training in the following subject areas:
- Introduction to aviation medicine
- Basic aeronautical knowledge
- Aviation physiology
- Cardiovascular system
- Respiratory system
- Digestive system
- Metabolic and endocrine systems;
- Haematology
- Genitourinary system
- Obstetrics and gynaecology
- Musculoskeletal system
- Psychiatry
- Psychology
- Neurology
- Visual system and colour vision
- Otorhinolaryngology
- Oncology
- Incidents and accidents escape and survival
- Medication and flying
- Legislation, rules and regulations
- Cabin crew working environment
- In-flight environment

There is open access to the directing staff throughout the course and course members are encouraged to discuss individual progress.
The final examination on the course consists of a 1 hour 30 minute written paper. The examination is optional, however, a pass in the EASA Basic course examination is necessary for consideration of appointment as an EASA Class 2 AME. A certificate of success in the examination is issued by King’s College London and is recognised by the national regulatory bodies within EASA.
Extra information
Lectures are primarily held in the Centre for Human and Applied Physiological Sciences at the Guy’s Campus of King’s College London, near London Bridge. During the course time is spent at the CAA medical department, Gatwick and, if necessary, at the flight simulators located at British Airways Flight Training at Heathrow.
