Students majoring in Economics can choose to pursue either a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree. Both degree programs are designed to prepare students as competent economists ready for successful careers in business or government, and/or for graduate school in economics or professional school studying business or law.

Our best economics students are honored with invitations to join the prestigious Omicron Delta Epsilon, the international honor society in economics. Also, all economics students are invited to join the Econ Club, which sponsors guest speakers, field trips, occasional lunch seminars and other social activities.

The Economics B.S. degree program includes 30 hours of free elective courses. These electives provide a unique opportunity for students to complete a second major or a minor within four years of study.

About this course

The undergraduate Economics program is designed to prepare students as competent economists ready for successful careers in business or government, graduate school in economics or professional school studying business or law. As a student in this program, you’ll take a range of courses including macroeconomics, microeconomics, public speaking, international trade and more.

Because the economics program is relatively small, economics students often work through their program of study in "cohorts" which makes the classroom atmosphere informal and collegial. Upper-level economics courses usually have fewer than 25 students which help to facilitate student-professor interaction.

A 2.5 or higher GPA is required in all ECON courses used to satisfy graduation requirements.
Successful completion of ECON 4990, Senior Seminar, satisfies the exit exam requirement for ECON majors.
Complete a first year academic seminar (ECON 0001 or other first year academic course).
Students must fulfill other requirements in the Graduation Requirements section of the Catalog.
