Course Description

This class offers is a basic overview of economic theory for the average consumer. It is an informed-citizens guide to the economics of everyday life. The goal is to give the student a working knowledge of basic economic theory and economic institutions. The class is interesting because students will become familiar with how markets function. Students will interact with the lessons to apply key economic concepts. We will study and discuss four key elements of every day economics, namely credit markets, business cycle, inflation, interest rates and insurance.

The main objective of this course is to examine how economic concepts impact people's day to day lives. Students develop a basic understanding of how people need to make choices due to the existence of limited resources along with unlimited wants. Topics include credit markets, inflation, interest rates, insurance, and business cycles. Assignments will be designed to apply the economic principals of supply and demand as well as the role of prices.

This course requires a high level of commitment from students. Throughout this course there will be interactive lessons that include a mixture of instructional videos and tasks. After passing this course successfully, students can apply economic analysis in their future studies and be able to discuss economic issues covered by the media.

Prerequisites: There are no prerequisites for this course. This class is open for students from ninth to twelfth grade.
