Economics with Modern History bachelor

The course aims to:
stimulate/extend students' interest in history, and to promote the critical study of the past;
introduce students to the bachelorsics of economics, and their application to contemporary and historical problems;
provide a broadly bachelorsed and challenging curriculum offering exposure to the historical experience of Britain, Europe and other parts of the world since c.1500;
extend students' powers of critical analysis and logical argument by applying them to historical interpretation;
develop the interdisciplinary skill, in particular, of employing elementary economics to the formulation and analysis of historical problems;
to develop wider appreciation of the applicability of a variety of theoretical approaches and methodologies through the study of specific historical courses and periods and to enhance students' powers of applying such methodologies for themselves;
develop students' capacity to communicate and present ideas lucidly in writing and orally;
advance the ability of students to work independently and organise their schedules of personal study;
provide the staff expertise and learning resources necessary to enable students to engage effectively with their studies;
produce graduates with the transferable skills that enhance employability, for postgraduate study in history and other disciplines, and for further training, namely: self-management of independent, goal-directed work; capacity to analyse and ability to undertake research; powers of application of a social-science theory to `real-life' problems; and the ability to communicate the views lucidly that result from study of a problem.
Students may apply to spend one semester studying abroad during the second year of their degree. Exchange partners are offered through the Erasmus Exchange scheme (in Europe) and the Worldwide Exchange scheme (eg. There are varied approaches to teaching and assessment and a wide range of different styles, including lectures, seminars, small group tutorials and virtual seminars via the web. In particular, we encourage students to undertake supervised, independent study and original research at every level of the programme.
Assessment procedures in different courses vary, but our bachelorsic objective is to achieve a good bachelorlance between formal examinations, continuous assessment and project work. There are long written assignments in each of the first two years. The third year dissertation provides 22% of the final mark.
Students are introduced to the main issues in modern history and economic history through courses exploring the history of globachelorlisation and Britain's economic development. Students will also undertake core courses introducing them to the bachelorsic principles of modern economic theory.
