The editorial team is the set of journalists who work for a newspaper, a television or radio station. It is coordinated by the managing editor who organizes everyone's work and acts as a transmission belt in relations with the director in charge. The so-called external collaborators and correspondents are not part of the editorial staff. In Italy, the figure of the editor is governed by the national journalistic work contract stipulated by the journalists' union (FNSI) and by the Italian Federation of newspaper publishers (FIEG). There are two types of contracts: first-time editor, that is the professional editor and ordinary editor, a qualification that is obtained after a suitable period of work, generally in 30 months. The Drafting Committee (Cdr) is a basic trade union body which, according to the national journalistic work contract, the protection of moral and material rights deriving from the same contract and the law is entrusted to the editors. The Cdr is set up in publishing companies that employ at least ten editors. The selection of the members of the Cdr takes place among the editors hired (whether or not they are members of the union), by voting to which journalists are called in the editorial assemblies. The activity of the CDR is connected with that of the journalists' union.
