About this course

The Education and Training - Level 3 Award (RQF) Course is for people who are looking to teach within the Further Education and Skills Sector. The course has been designed to give an underpinning knowledge of the roles, responsibilities and boundaries of teachers and trainers for those with little or no previous involvement of teaching or training. This is a replacement qualification for the Level 3 and Level 4 Awards in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS).

There is no previous learning knowledge or experience required to take this course, and learners are not required to be in a teaching position. The student will need access to Skype for the Micro-Teach session in Unit 3.

On successful completion of this course students will be awarded an Education and Training Award Qualification by TQUK.

This qualification has been accredited on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF Qualification No: 601/1831/3). This is a Level 3 Award Qualification with 12 credits.

Unit 1 - Understanding Roles, Responsibilities and Relationships in Education and Training Learning Outcomes

The following topics are covered: Understanding the teaching role and responsibilities in education and training, Understanding ways to maintain a safe and supportive learning environment, Understanding the relationships between teachers and other professionals in education and training.

Unit 2 - Understanding and Using Inclusive Teaching and Learning Approaches in Education and Training Learning Outcomes

The following topics are covered: Features of inclusive teaching and learning, Comparing the strengths and limitations of teaching and learning approaches used in own area of specialism in relation to meeting individual learner needs, Why it is important to provide opportunities for learners to develop their English, mathematics, ICT and wider skills, Why it is important to create an inclusive teaching and learning environment, Why it is important to select teaching and learning approaches, resources and assessment methods to meet individual learner needs, Ways to engage and motivate learners, Ways to establish ground rules with learners.

Unit 3 - Session Planning and Micro Teach Skills Learning Outcomes

The following topics are covered: Devising an inclusive teaching and learning plan, Justify own selection of teaching and learning approaches, resources and assessment methods in relation to meeting individual learner needs, Use teaching and learning approaches, resources and assessment methods to meet individual learner needs, Communicate with learners in ways that meet their individual needs, Provide constructive feedback to learners to meet their individual needs, Review the effectiveness of own delivery of inclusive teaching and learning, Identify areas for improvement in own delivery of inclusive teaching and learning.

Unit 4 - Understanding Assessment in Education and Training Learning Outcomes

The following topics are covered: The purpose of the types of assessment used in education and training, Characteristics of different methods of assessment in education and training, The strengths and limitations of different assessment methods in relation to meeting individual learner needs, Why it is important to involve learners and others in the assessment process, The role and use of peer and self-assessment in the assessment process, Sources of information that should be made available to learners and others involved in the assessment process, Key features of constructive feedback, How constructive feedback contributes to the assessment process, Ways to give constructive feedback to learners, The need for keeping records of assessment of learning, The requirements for keeping records of assessment in an organisation.

COURSE ASSESSMENT:

The learner will complete a portfolio of evidence by successfully completing all of the activities at the end of each unit. This portfolio is assessed by your tutor who will mark and sign off each completed unit of study.

Course Assignments can be returned by uploading to the online portal, by email or by post. We recommend that assignments are completed and returned as word-processed documents through the online portal. Handwritten documents can be accepted but need to be clear and legible and may be subject to a longer marking time.
