Course programme

The Master of Education in Arts offers arts educators, art teachers and artists the possibility to further professionalise in their field of study. During this two-year part-time programme, you will work together closely with fellow students from various disciplines and you will develop a personal vision on topical issues in the arts and arts education. During the study programme, you will work actively on your pedagogical, didactic and artistic skills, research, entrepreneurship and critical reflection. Important themes in the study programme are interdisciplinarity, the metropolitan and intercultural context and authentic arts education.

Vision
The didactic concept of the Master of Education in Arts is based on the principals of authentic arts education, inspired by the ideas of the American philosopher and educator John Dewey (1859-1952). Dewey argued that learning should be an active process, in a learning environment that reflects society in a lifelike way. That is to say that arts education becomes meaningful when it ties in with the everyday life of the participant and with the current professional arts practice.

NB. Please be aware that the Master of Education in Arts programme is taught in Dutch. Therefore, students have to have a good command of the Dutch language.
