As an international applicant, the International Foundation Year at the University of Wolverhampton will give you a solid base to progress onto and study a selection of our degree programmes, subject to professional body requirements.

We will help you to understand the expectations and academic skills required to study successfully for a degree in the UK.

We offer two start dates for the International Foundation Year in either semester 1 or 2, with the course lasting an academic year.

You will study a mixture of subject-specific modules and more general modules that will expand your English language and learning skills ready for higher education.

You will gain a solid foundation in the key academic skills such as research and referencing that will support degree-level study.

The International Foundation Year:

introduces your chosen specialist subject
gives you a solid foundation in key academics skills like research and referencing that will support degree-level study
develops and improves your academic language skills
provides a choice of pathways based on your desired subject specialism
give you educational bridge to study an undergraduate degree of your choice at the University of Wolverhampton (subject to professional body requirements).

By studying the International Foundation Year in Education, Health and Wellbeing, you will develop your skills in your chosen subject specialism to a level that will allow you to begin a degree (subject to professional body requirements and Disclosure and Barring checks) at the University of Wolverhampton’s Faculty of Education, Health and Wellbeing.

Upon completing the International Foundation Year, you may choose to continue your studies at other UK universities which recognise the programme, we have progression agreements with other UK universities provided you meet their conditions.

The International Academy is accredited by the British Council (Accreditation UK) for the quality of English Language provision.

About this course

The aim of this course is to allow you to progress onto a degree programme in your chosen subject at the University of Wolverhampton (or at another UK university which recognises the programme).
Most of our International Foundation Year students continue onto their chosen degree programmes at the University of Wolverhampton, but should you wish to progress to another University we have a progression agreement with Oxford Brookes University, provided you meet the following conditions:

Evidence of a competed High School Certificate with satisfactory results.
Successful completion of the Foundation Programme at the University of Wolverhampton with a minimum grade of 60/65% for most Oxford Brookes University undergraduate programmes. Oxford Brookes University may also require minimum marks on specific modules.
Fully completed UCAS application form, with an appropriate personal statement and good academic references from tutors.
Proof of English language proficiency. For most programmes this will be an IELTS score of 6.0 overall, with a minimum of 6.0 in Reading and Writing. Law and Psychology require IELTS 6.5 overall with 6.0 in Reading and Writing.

We also have a progression agreement with the University of Brighton for their undergraduate Business courses only, subject to conditions which include WEPE/IELTS 6 overall with 6 in writing and minimum 5.5 in other areas.
We are also having ongoing discussions with several other institutions.

Course programme

Our dedicated staff provide expert support and tuition to help prepare you for your future study choices. The programme has a minimum of 12 weeks of teaching included.

A typical week will include 15-20 contact hours (teacher-led learning).

All modules include a number of tutorial sessions either in small group sessions or one-to-one.

You will have access to extensive online facilities, as well as our learning centres/ libraries, allowing you to make the most of the resources available to you.

You can make the general modules relevant to you by choosing topics that relate to your chosen academic subject.

  • Learning in a Digital Environment

Within the School of Education, Health and Wellbeing typical modules include:

  • Introduction to Healthcare Science
  • Principles of Biomedical Science

Teaching methods include lectures, seminars and tutorials.

Assessment methods include:

  • assessment on project work undertaken throughout the period
