Please note this course is for those over the age of 19 only. For people working in post 16 education and training such as Colleges, private training providers or training within their own workplace. This course is for you if: You are working in further or adult education such as a College or private training provider You are working business, industry or public services and have a teaching or training role This course provides you with the opportunity to understand the background to current education practice as well as gaining all the skills you need to become a successful practitioner. The Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training is the equivalent replacement for the previous offer of Level 4 Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS).

Course programme

The course concentrates on establishing your skills as a trainer. The regular taught sessions, workplace support, training practice and focused self-evaluation all combine to help you improve your training and professional practice. We will help you to: Recognise the key challenges as a practitioner in the Lifelong Learning Sector and how they relate to your own skills, understanding and capability Recognise and act on your own development needs in Language, Literacy, Numeracy (LLN) and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Lead the planning of your own improvement as a reflective professional Develop a professional approach to all key elements of your role in ways which will engage and inspire your trainees Plan a variety of learning activities, sessions and programmes, and evaluate their effectiveness Assess student learning and evaluate your own effectiveness as a practitioner Use strategies, resources and methods for supporting learning with a diverse range of learners on an individual and group basis, and evaluate their effectiveness. Topics Include: Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships Delivery, resources and assessment Planning to meet the needs of learners Teaching in a specialist area The course will be delivered via classroom teaching sessions, small group seminars and one to one tutorials, with further one to one feedback provided during the session observations. Supporting materials will also be provided on the College’s Virtual Learning Environment. You will be assessed through a series of seminar presentations, case studies, reports and observed training sessions.
