Course programme
BA Hons Educational Practice
Mode: full-time
The BA (Honours) in Educational Practice is a third year only programme. Most students will be working as Teaching Assistants in an educational setting.
Students on the course will undertake research in schools informed by their review of educational, philosophical, psychological and sociological reading.
Graduates will be able to contribute to their institution’s improvement and take ownership of their own continuing professional development needs. Students will also benefit from interacting with other students on education programmes within the faculty.
In order to allow students to continue to work in their institutions the programme is currently concentrated into one day of study per week, over three terms, starting in September and finishing in July the following year.

- Taught by academic staff with extensive school teaching experience.

Career Opportunities
These will revolve around the education and support of children, young people and adults. The successful completion of this course will enable access to Qualified Teacher Status courses, in particular Primary PGCE or GTP courses and also allow graduates to potentially work in the social services, educational welfare, community programmes, charities, further education or go on to further postgraduate study.
Teaching/learning methods and strategies
The University’s virtual learning environment (BREO) allows access to learning outside of the Campus and fosters meaningful interaction between students.
Assessment
In this one year programme students will experience assessment through essays, presentations, research projects, website design and reflective logs. The structure of the course means that students will be expected to undertake a significant amount of self-directed study during the programme.
