This full-time course is perfect for you if you are seeking to understand education within its broader contexts, and is equally suitable for home and overseas students. With a choice of core modules to suit your past experience it is ideal preparation for entering work in the education sphere as it pairs foundation theories with a more in-depth study of education arguments and disputes. We encourage you to link theoretical and practical understanding of issues in education, while developing knowledge, skills and understanding of the questions involved in conceptualising and designing educational research.
You will receive a grounding in research methods and a core module based on your prior knowledge of the UK education system. You will also select two optional modules from our portfolio to suit your own interests. You’ll then complete a dissertation under the supervision of a member of academic staff.

About this course
This course will help you to understand better the theories, practicalities and significance of educational issues, whilst also enabling you to develop an appreciation for the role that research plays in illuminating these. We aim to help you to identify and meet your professional and personal development needs through a flexible bank of modules and informed advice in choosing your dissertation topic. You will have the opportunity to debate with your peers on a host of important education issues.

This programme has a number of optional modules to choose from to allow you to achieve the required credits to successfully complete the programme. Teaching:
You will complete a core module in Foundation Research Methods (30 CATS) that will provide research training for the course, plus either the Teaching, Learning and Assessment module, or the Education, Policy and Society module, depending on whether you have prior knowledge of the UK education system. You may then select two optional modules from the modules offered across the taught MA programmes within the Centre for Education Studies to suit your needs and interests. You will then complete a 20,000 word dissertation under the supervision of a member of our well-published academic staff.
Assessment:
Programmes within the Centre for Education Studies are assessed through a variety of methods depending on the module choices each student makes.
