Our 6 hour IELTS Preparation Course is for students who are 16 or over and want to further their studies at college or university from Level 3 to Level 7. The course outlines the requirements of the IELTS test and focuses on the language structures appropriate for academic and formal English. It provides learners with reading, writing and listening strategies and techniques to prepare for the exam.
What qualifications or experience do I need ?Our IELTS courses are available for intermediate (B1 CEFR.) to advanced level learners (C1/C2CEFR.) We will test you to make sure you a placed in the right class.
What will I study ?Skills, techniques and strategies to achieve an IELTS score for progression on to Higher Education and other mainstream courses. General language skills and to develop language skills specific to the requirements of a HE Course. Essay and report writing skills to a standard which is acceptable for degree work. Reading skills suitable for academic texts and analysis for academic use. Vocabulary on a wide range of current topics Speaking skills for a variety of contexts. Study skills to support your learning. All aspects of the IELTS exam.
How will I be assessed ?All students will be given homework to do every week including writing and reading tasks. You will also be given tests to assess your progress.
What qualifications could I achieve ?All students will receive a Barnet and Southgate College Certificate of attendance at level B2/C1 CEFR. You can take a Cambridge English exam at level B2/C1 CEFR in December, March or June.

Will I need an interview ?You can be assessed at Southgate Campus Mon - Fri. 10.00 - 12.00 The test usually takes 1 hour. If you not able to come for an assessment we can send you the assessment test to complete and return.
Any extra costs for equipment/materials ?You will need to buy a course book to support your learning which are approximately £30.00. You are expected to bring a file and notebook to all your classes. If you choose to do an exam you will need to pay for your exam £55 - £95.00 dependent on level.
