About this course

Standard entry to this course requires one reference. It is desirable that you can demonstrate 90% attendance at your last place of work or study. A GCSEs in both English and maths at 4 (grade C) or above plus two other GCSE’s, one of which must be a science subject. You will need to have successfully completed a level 2 electrical installation programme.



Consideration will be given to all applicants over the age of 19 who do not hold formal English and maths qualifications, but you must have previously successfully completed a level 2 electrical installation programme.

Course programme

Year 1

The level 3 electrical technical diploma will develop learners’ practical and theoretical knowledge. You will study the following modules: planning and overseeing electrical work activities; principles of electrical science; electrical design and installation practices and procedures; principles of inspection, testing and commissioning electrical systems; inspecting, testing and commissioning electrical systems; electrical system fault diagnosis and rectification; and the requirements for electrical installations

Additional information

Assessment will be via a summative examination in late April to May. There will also be assessment throughout the programme by your tutors to check your progress. Practical assessments will also take the form of tutor-designed formative assessments as well as a summative City Guilds assessment in May to June.
