The course presents fundamental theory together with techniques for the practical design, measurement and application of antennas over the RF (radio-frequency) spectrum from HF to millimetre wave. This short course, which will be taught at MSc level, is one of the subject modules that comprise the MSc in Military Electronic Systems Engineering (MESE).

Course programme

Course structure One course per year. This 5 day course is taught by a mix of lectures, tutorials, demonstrations and group study. All delegates receive a course folder containing all material presented in the course and a copy of the course notes. Full-time students have access to online material used.
What you will learn

On completion delegates will be able to:

  • Analyse and evaluate the performance of antennas, RF components and sources and recognise how they may be used in a defence communication or radar system
  • Assess the propagation of electromagnetic signals in physical environments
  • Design antenna elements and develop phased array performance models implemented in Matlab.
