About this course

Who is this course for? Those who are practically minded and wish to become an installation electrician. This award is also aimed at candidates who will be following an Advanced Modern Apprenticeship and so will continue with the Level 3 award in order to work towards their JIB Licence and full electrician status.
Previous knowledge required: You will need to have satisfactory levels of numeracy and literacy. It would be advantageous to possess reasonable grade GCSE's in Maths and a Science/Technology subject. You should have a strong interest in electrical work, be well motivated to succeed and have a practical aptitude. All applicants must complete a satisfactory interview. Applications from mature candidates are particularly welcomed even though they may not possess the necessary entrance qualifications.
What will I study? On this course the majority of the time will be spent on the practical tasks and activities associated with Electrical Installation. If you are a practically minded person, this could be the course for you. You will study subjects including: Health and Safety in the Electrotechnical Industry / Electrical Principles Electrical Installation of (buildings and structures) Inspection, Testing and Commissioning.
What else will I do? This scheme is designed to contribute towards the knowledge and understanding for Electrotechnical NVQs at Levels 2 & 3 (City and Guilds 2356), containing skills and knowledge which reflect the scope of the National Occupational Standards.
How will I be assessed? By the use of City and Guilds set written examinations and practical assignment tasks
What will I achieve? City & Guilds Level 2 Cerificate in Electrotechnology
What can I do afterwards? This award provide the underpinning knowledge in electrotechnology and safety needed for anyone planning to take up a career within the Electrotechnical industry. It also provides the appropriate progression towards the Level 3 Certificate in Electrtechnology.

Additional information about this course: This Certificate combines generic electrotechnical knowledge with a range of optional units designed to complement any of these career choices: Electrical Installation (Building and Structures), Electrical Maintenance, Installing Instrumentation and Associated Equipment, Highway Electrical Systems, Electrotechnical Panel Building and Electrical Machine Rewind and Repair.
