Course Content

Award:
HSE Approved Certificate which is valid for three years. There is no requalification course for the EFAW, the initial course is retaken.

What's it all about?:
The Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course is the new Health and Safety Executive (HSE) approved course.

It has been designed for smaller companies that present few health and safety risks.

This course is ideal for the nominated emergency workplace first aider or any individual requiring a comprehensive one day first aid training course

Progression:
Those who successfully complete the day's training will be awarded a nationally recognised HSE approved certificate which is valid for three years.

Entry Requirements:
There are no specific entry requirements.

Duration: One day (six hours)

Business Benefits:
The Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 require all employers to provide adequate and appropriate equipment, facilities and personnel to enable first aid to be given to employees if they become injured or ill at work .

After undertaking a risk assessment based on the new First Aid at Work Guidelines for Employers from the Health and Safety Executive (effective from 1/10/09) and identifying what type of training, how many and where they should be located, this course is designed to train the first aider who will work in a low risk area were a three day FAW qualification is not deemed necessary.

What does the course involve?:

The course covers:
  • acting safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency
  • cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • treating an unconscious casualty (including seizure)
  • choking
  • minor wounds and bleeding
  • shock
  • minor injuries
  • minor burns and scalds
  • preventing cross infection, recording incidents and actions and the use of available equipment.

Are there any exams?:
There is ongoing practical assessment throughout the day.
