The objective of EMSHIP+ is to provide a high level of education in “Advanced Design of Ships and Offshore Structures”. The challenges faced are condensing multidisciplinary topics such as ship and offshore design, computational and experimental methods, structure, hydrodynamic, production, etc. into 2 years, while offering the students advanced academic lectures as well as extensive industry experience (though an internship).
In the light of those challenges, the consortium selected the University of Liege (Belgium) to deliver a broad engineering foundation to a wide spectrum of students, thus enabling students to achieve the intended learning outcomes in the fields of Ship and Offshore Structure, Ship Design Methodology, Hydrodynamics and Production, based on fundamentals in Mechanics, Vibration Theory, CFD, FEM, Materials and Manufacturing Process. ULiege use student’s existing knowledge in physics, hydrodynamics, solid mechanics, to focus the EMSHIP+ master program on the practical applications of these theoretical concepts to SHIP and OFFSHORE STRUCTURE DESIGN.
Then, to receive advanced knowledge in their field of specialisation, the EMSHIP+ students will have the opportunity to join a second university for their third semester and then an industrial partner for their internship (coupled with a third university in charge of the master thesis during an extended 4th semester). Students can choose from the following topics: Advanced Hydrodynamics in Ship and Offshore (manoeuvrability and propulsion), Design of Sailing Yachts and Motor Yachts, Ocean Engineering, Information Technology, Advanced Ships and Offshore Structures (fatigue, ultimate strength) and many others.
