Course programme
You need to be aged between 16 and 24 and currently employed in engineering. There are no specific qualifications needed but numeracy and literacy skills would be an advantage (help with these skills can be offered through the College if required).
What’s involved? The Apprenticeship will cover Health and Safety, working effectively and efficiently, using and communicating technical information. There are also three units to be undertaken based upon the type of work that you are employed in, such as:
• Preparing and using lathes for operation, and milling machines
• Producing mechanical assemblies
• Producing sheet metal components and assemblies
• Producing CAD drawings using a CAD system
• Hand tooling of precision components.
You will be working at your place of employment and you will be required to attend College for day or block release.
How will I be assessed? You will be assessed on your practical competence through regular visits and assessments by an appointed Instructor/Assessor.
Where can I move on to after this course? On successful completion of the programme you will achieve a Level 2 NVQ after which you could go on to study a two year Level 3 Advanced Engineering Apprenticeship.
