Engineering - Fabrication and Welding Certificate (Level 2)

Core Units: Working safely in an engineering environment Carrying out engineering activities efficiently and effectively Using and communicating technical information Specialist Units: Producing sheet metal components and assemblies Preparing and using manual metal arc welding equipment Preparing and using manual TIG or plasma-arc welding equipment Preparing and using manual MIG, MAG and other continuous wire welding equipment Competencies in welding to enable safe progression into the workplace/employment. Ideally candidates should have achieved minimum GCSE grade D or Functional Skills at Level 1 in Maths, English and ICT. Those applicants who are successful but do not have the required grade will be expected to be able to achieve Functional Skills to a Level 1 standard. Combined with the PEO course, it is equivalent to the first year of a modern apprenticeship in engineering. There are opportunities to gain employment as a modern apprentice.
