Introduction:
This Higher National Diploma (HND) is designed for students who have previously achieved an HNC in an Engineering discipline and are looking to develop their technical and professional skills. The programme provides an opportunity to â€-top-up' from an HNC to HND by studying four additional modules. To achieve the HND you need a total of five modules at Level 2 from your HNC and HND units (at least three modules at Level 2 should have been achieved on your HNC).
Study Mode & Location:
This one year part-time course is studied on a day release basis for one afternoon (Friday) and one evening per week. It will be held at Preston College, Fulwood Campus, St Vincent's Road, Preston, PR2 8UR.
Course Content:
The HND comprises four modules. These four modules are chosen from the wide range of modules offered on the College's HNC programmes. Students will be advised as to which modules to choose, dependent on their preferred choice of degree or career progression.
Assessment:
Assessment is via a combination of assessment methods relevant to the particular module.
Careers & Progression Opportunities:
This part time top up programme has been developed to meet the needs of any industrial position that requires a good understanding of engineering. Career progression and professional requirements have influenced the design of the course. The qualification is universally recognised by employers and enhances promotion prospects in supervisory and management appointments. Successful students may progress to a BEng Degree at the University of Central Lancashire or other universities, in a subject related to their choice of module options. The following programmes are currently available at the University of Central Lancashire; BEng (Mechanical Engineering, Motor Sports), BEng Electrical/Electronic Engineering, BEng Computer-Aided Design and a BSc Combined Honours programme.
