3. Entry requirements 2 GCSEs at grade B or above including Maths, and 2 GCSEs at grade C or above including English Language and Science OR Merit or Distinction at Level 2 Diploma in Engineering 4. Equipment required You will be required to provide protective clothing and shoes for any practical activity. A set of drawing instruments will be needed. You will be expected to contribute towards the costs of any organised trips and visits. Further information will be provided by your tutor.This course is made up of 18 units (180 credits) studied over two years just like an A level programme, and is equivalent to 3 A levels. Year 1 consists of a 90 credit programme. After year 1 most students will enrol onto year 2 and complete a full BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma ensuring progression to University level courses, higher apprenticeships or employment. Students who leave after successfully completing year 1 with a BTEC 90 Credit Diploma (which is equivalent to 1 ½ A levels) can use this qualification to support progression into employment or further training. 5. Assessment method You will study a total of 18 BTEC units (Extended Diploma) or 12 BTEC units (Diploma) over the two-years of the course. The units are assessed mainly by coursework - this may include assignment work, presentations and design projects. Short tests may also be used. For each unit you complete you will be awarded a Pass (P), Merit (M), or Distinction (D) grade. You will be awarded an overall grade such as PPP, MMM, DDD or D*D*D* (a D*D*D* grade is the direct equivalent of three A* grade A levels at and is worth the same - 420 UCAS points for university entry) Most units will require some commitment of your own time to fulfill the assignment and investigation requirements. Final Qualification: BTEC Level 3 90 Credit Diploma in Engineering (after 1 year of study) or BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Engineering (after 2 years of study) You will also receive an NVQ Performing Engineering Operations Level 2 qualification
