About the course

If you spent much of your childhood making – and breaking(!) things, perhaps you had the early beginnings of an engineer in the making. Engineering Maintenance Apprenticeships at City College Plymouth open the door to jobs in an extremely broad field where you can pursue a career in a variety of sectors. Complex machinery is needed throughout the UK, and indeed the world, and requires a team of dedicated engineers to design, build and then maintain it. Follow a career path as a Maintenance Engineer and you could find yourself working on everything from simple machinery to complex systems for prestigious manufacturers. Maintenance Engineers can choose to follow either an electrical or mechanical engineering path. At City College Plymouth, we’ll take your natural talent and attention to detail and match you with an employer to help you earn while you learn, gaining valuable real-life experience and formal qualifications to give you a competitive edge in the industry. Apprenticeships are for students employed as an apprentice by a local company. At City College Plymouth, you can study an Intermediate Apprenticeship or an Advanced Apprenticeship in Engineering Maintenance. The intermediate level is equivalent to five GCSEs at grades A*-C (9-4) and the advanced level is equivalent to three A Levels, providing you with a route to progress to university study in the future.
