Course programme

N/SVQs are based on national industry standards. They recognise that candidates who have demonstrated their ability to reach the standard have the skill and associated knowledge to work safely and competently at the appropriate level in their chosen area. Those not completing the full qualification can gain a certificate for the units they have achieved.

Structure of the Qualification

The candidate is required to complete the three mandatory assessment routes, plus the required number of assessment routes from their choice of pathway.

Mandatory Assessment Routes

  • Complying with statutory regulations and organisational safety requirements
  • Using and interpreting engineering data and documentation
  • Working efficiently and effectively in engineering

Pathway TSD: Computer Control Programming

All three mandatory assessment routes, plus one assessment route from Group A and one from Group B:

Group A

  • Providing operational support for computer control programs
  • Loading and proving computer control programs

Group B

  • Producing operating programs for co-ordinate measuring machines (CMM)
  • Producing off-line programs for programmable logic controller equipment
  • Producing operating programs for industrial robots
  • Producing off-line programs for NC/CNC laser profiling machines
  • Producing off-line programs for NC/CNC fabrication machines
  • Producing off-line programs for NC/CNC turning machines
  • Producing off-line programs for NC/CNC milling machines
  • Producing off-line programs for NC/CNC grinding machines
  • Producing off-line programs for NC/CNC gear cutting machines
  • Producing off-line programs for NC/CNC electro-discharge machining
  • Producing off-line programs for NC/CNC boring machines
  • Producing off-line programs for NC/CNC machining centres

Modern Apprenticeships are aimed at those aged 16 or above and capable of achieving a vocational qualification (VQ) at Level Two or above. The programme can be used to train existing employees or new employees. Any company in Scotland - whatever its size - can take part in the programme. Potential trainees need to get a job before they can take part in the programme. People without a job, however, can contact a local training company such as ourselves AD Services (Scotland) Ltd.
