The primary objective of the Engineering Technical Support qualifications is to contribute to the development of a skilled workforce as a whole. This can be done where possible by integrating N/SVQs into the organisation's models for personnel and business development and recognising the competence of the people who make up the workforce at all levels. Course programme
N/SVQs are based on national industry standards. They recognise that candidates who have demonstrated their ability to reach the standard have the skill and associated knowledge to work safely and competently at the appropriate level in their chosen area. Those not completing the full qualification can gain a certificate for the units they have achieved.
Structure of the Qualification
The candidate is required to complete the three mandatory assessment routes, plus the required number of assessment routes from their choice of pathway.
Mandatory Assessment Routes
- Complying with statutory regulations and organisational safety requirements
- Using and interpreting engineering data and documentation
- Working efficiently and effectively in engineering
Pathway TSE: Technical Services
The candidate is required to complete all three mandatory assessment routes and all of Group A, plus a further three assessment routes, where one must be from Group B. The remaining two assessment routes can be completed from either Group B or Group C.

Group C
- Providing technical advice and guidance on engineering activities
- Carrying out project management of engineering activities
- Developing and maintaining effective customer relationships
- Handing over and exchanging responsibility for control of engineering activities
- Carrying out health and safety risk assessments on engineering activities
- Producing contractual agreements to supply or procure goods or services for engineering activities
Modern Apprenticeships are aimed at those aged 16 or above and capable of achieving a vocational qualification (VQ) at Level Two or above. The programme can be used to train existing employees or new employees. Any company in Scotland - whatever its size - can take part in the programme.
