Acadia’s English program offers more than 40 full- or half-year courses taught by specialists in literary and media studies. Our first-year classes will introduce you to a variety of novels, plays, poems, and essays while providing you with strategies for developing a clear and persuasive writing style. As an upper-year student you will pursue your interests and broaden your experience of literature in courses covering a range of periods, authors, genres, cultures, and critical approaches. There are also several creative writing courses available.
Acadia offers BA and BA honours options, thesis and non-thesis streams, and an award-winning co-operative education program that allows you to integrate your studies with paid work experience. As an English major you will also have the chance to get involved with the Acadia English Society. One of the most active student groups on campus, the English Society hosts activities such as open mic poetry nights and film screenings throughout the year. If you are interested in writing you can contribute to the department's newsletter and our creative arts magazine. As a senior English student you are assigned study carrels and have access to the departmental seminar room and lounge. If you choose to study English at Acadia University you will be selecting a vibrant and friendly program committed to your success.
