Course Aims:
At AS the specification aims to:
1) encourage candidates to develop their ability to use linguistic and literary critical concepts and analytical frameworks in commenting on a wide range of spoken language and written texts;

2) encourage candidates to develop as independent, confident and reflective readers:

3) enable candidates to relate literary and non-literary texts to the contexts in which they were produced;

4) enable candidates to develop their skills in speaking and writing for different purposes and audiences.

Course Content:
Modules covered:

Language production

This module focuses on the way that texts are written. Students get the opportunity to analyse texts and produce their own writing in a variety of formats.

Poetic study

Students study the work of a particular poet concentrating on the literary techniques used with their poems

Study of Language Prose and Speech

Students study a novel looking at plot, characterisation, narrative voice, language and context. The course also focuses on the language of speech in transcripts, speeches etc

Progression:
Progression subject to student numbers, students can progress onto the second year A2 level of the course.
