Important Note: The Duke University Graduate School and the School of Law are revising the dual JD/MA and JD/MS degree programs. At the current time, only the Bioethics and Science Policy program will be accepting applications. For this program, students will apply during the fall semester of their first year of law study for matriculation into the dual program in the spring semester.

The study and practice of law is increasingly interdisciplinary, and many Duke Law students and faculty are interested in the ways that matters of law and policy intersect with other fields, including economics, political science, engineering, and environmental science. At Duke, they have the opportunity to engage with leading scholars and students in these other fields in a variety of ways. Many students elect to take a course or two from another department for credit towards their JD. Others with a deeper interdisciplinary interest choose to complete a dual degree program combining their JD with an MA or MS in another discipline.

Duke students may apply to the Graduate School during their first year of law school. The GRE is typically not required. Some JD/MA-MS programs may be completed in three years (perhaps with credit earned in the summer after the first year); others may require an additional semester or two of study.
