Course programme

English as a Foreign Language (EFL) The English as a Foreign Language programme is a full time preparatory programme designed to help international students, who are aged 16 and over, to develop their English language skills for progression onto further academic study.

What you study

Students will develop their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills, undertake maths, IT and study skills and be prepared for IELTS.

Classes run between 09:00 and 16:00 for 50 minutes per session and students receive a minimum of 17 contact hours per week. The maximum number of students per class is 15.


All students are taught by qualified and experienced English language teachers, and have a personal tutor who will provide pastoral and academic support and guidance on a weekly basis. Comprehensive careers guidance and assistance with progression opportunities onto UK Universities will also be provided.


Entry requirements

A minimum of IELTS 4.5 or equivalent for progression the following academic year.

Progression opportunities

On successful completion and an IELTS score of 5.0/5.5, students can progress on to a wide range of academic and vocational programmes offered at Pembrokeshire College or any other UK Further Education Institution. Popular choices are A Levels, International Foundation in Business and Computing or Art and Design, National Diplomas or Higher National Diplomas. Students will need to meet specific course entry qualifications (please see individual course information sheets for details).

Living expenses
Approximately £5000 per year to include clothing, accommodation, food, books and learning materials.
